Sixpenny Money

sixpennymoneyweb

Taking their stylistic cue from classic performers in the Irish tradition, Sixpenny Money is a dance band that aims to do what folk music at its best has always done: to bring enjoyment, entertainment and a sense of community to audience members, dancers and musicians alike.

The pairing of Jason Pfeiffer's flute & whistle work with and pianist Beth Beech form the core of Sixpenny Money's sound and together they lay a solid foundation for any ceili or contradance. The band often performs with special guests, adding fiddle, bodhran, voice, or accordion to create a refined and energetic performance.

Drawing on influences as diverse as classical voice, Scots and Persian devotional texts, Middle Eastern rhythms, jazz harmoniesand traditional Celtic folk music, Gaedelica is a fresh, genre-crossing collaboration between Jason Pfeiffer and vocalist Karen MacLeod. Together they explore centuries-old musical styles and synthesize them into a unique new form.

The interplay of the three oldest instruments in human history - voice, percussion and flute - are at the core of Gaedelica's sound, and in their hands, these primal sounds offer a haunting, intimate glimpse into the achingly beautiful heart of human expression.
